Joe Goldberg is no stranger to hiding bodies. In the past 10 years, this 30-something has buried four of them, collateral damage in his quest for love. Now he’s heading west to Los Angeles, the city of second chances, determined to put his past behind him.

In Hollywood, Joe blends in effortlessly with the other young upstarts. He eats guac, works in a bookstore, and flirts with a journalist neighbor. But while others seem fixated on their own reflections, Joe can’t stop looking over his shoulder. The problem with hidden bodies is that they don’t always stay that way. They reemerge like dark thoughts, multiplying and threatening to destroy what Joe wants most: true love. And when he finds it in a darkened room in Soho House, he’s more desperate than ever to keep his secrets buried. He doesn’t want to hurt his new girlfriend – he wants to be with her forever. But if she ever finds out what he’s done, he may not have a choice…

Joe Goldberg is back! He’s my favorite psychopath, the one I feel guilty about loving. HIDDEN BODIES picks up where the first book, YOU, left off. Joe is leaving New York behind and heading to Hollywood, the land of self-absorbed people, all of them “sick with aspirations.” Sure, Joe’s a creepy stalker murderer, but he can’t help it. Society as a whole is just so dang annoying. He’s really just looking for love. Joe’s astute observations and sarcastic wit had me snickering throughout this book.

A big reason why I love the You series so much is the brilliant audiobook narration by Santino Fontana. His performance as Joe is amazing, as well as the voices he creates for the secondary characters. If you’re planning on reading this series, I highly recommend going with the audiobooks.

I enjoyed HIDDEN BODIES as much as YOU, though I do think the first book was creepier and more suspenseful. The second time around, Joe seemed more charming and relatable, which I suppose would make someone like him more dangerous! I’ve got my fingers crossed for a 3rd book.

Disclosure: I received a copy of this audiobook from the publisher in exchange for an honest review.

  1. I’m very much on the fence about these books. My daughter listened to the first one and liked it, but I’m not so fond of the ‘damaged’ anti-hero. Hmmm….I’ll think about it. I didn’t like Hannibal Lector and I couldn’t stand the characters in GONE GIRL.

  2. I DNF’d the first one but I still might give this one a chance. I put it on hold at the library. My reason for DNFing the first one because I was just over reading books with no rootable characters. I thought the writing was stellar. I might even reread it and will probably like it more.

  3. This series reminds me of when I ‘announced’ I loved John from I Am Not A Serial Killer, lol. I can’t wait to read this series, definitely starting with You very soon. So excited to catch up with everyone. I may have to read both this year.

  4. I’ve seen this book a few times and really want to read it but need to read You first. It sounds good! Love how enthusiastic your review is.

  5. I read You last year but didn’t know it’d be part of a series. I enjoyed reading You but thought it was an OK read. Not sure if I’ll read this though… hmm.
