Sunday Post | It’s Monday! What are you reading?

Linking up with Sunday Post &Β It’s Monday! What are you reading?

Happy Super Bowl Sunday! 🏈 We live in the Kansas City area, so we’ll be cheering on the KC Chiefs later today. I’m sure the game will be a nail biter. I’m not a football fan at all, but I feel like I should support the hometown team! [Update 2/8/21: Yikes! That was a painful game to watch. It just wasn’t their night. Bummer! Still, they had an amazing season.]

So…it’s been many years since I’ve joined a weekly book blog meme. 😯 I’d say for the past five years or so I’ve been concentrating most of my time on Goodreads and Instagram (and cross-posting here), because I felt like the book community had shifted in those directions. Lately, though, I’ve been missing my good ole book blog. Have you noticed a change in the book blogging community?

⭐️ A quick side note: I recently deleted my Facebook account (personal & page), so if we were friends & you noticed I disappeared, that’s why!

  1. Glad to see you back here! I’m on Goodreads mostly but also maintain my blog, which sort of mirrors my GR postings. I removed my Facebook blog page two years ago and would leave my personal page if it wasn’t for my family. I hate what MZ stands for and his irresponsibility in managing the site. I’m not active on Instagram, even though most of the book bloggers seemed to have migrated there. I don’t get that as it seems difficult to manage meaningful discussions. As it’s another MZ owned site, I cannot justifying playing there😏 I miss the blogger friends here that seemed to have disappeared.

Anyway! Great post and I’m looking forward to your upcoming reviews, DianaπŸ’œ

    • I hate that FB owns Instagram too. I was hoping that they’d have to sell it because of the monopoly thing, but who knows if that will ever happen. I had a personal FB account for a decade, and geez, it seemed to bring out the worst in people and cheapen relationships. I had to get out! Since I only use Instagram for books, it has a different vibe, at least. Thanks for stopping by! Happy Sunday β™₯

  2. Good luck to your home team! I’m in the UK so I have no preference on who wins… Or any real awareness of Superbowl as I’m not one of the many UK folks who follow the game. :)

Hope you have a good week!

    • Thank you! The Chiefs won the Super Bowl last year, and before that it had been 50 years since their only previous win. Needless to say, Kansas City went wild!

We watched the Ted Lasso series recently, about an American football coach (from Kansas!) who moves to the UK to coach football (soccer), which he knows nothing about, lol. It was such a sweet, charming, funny show. Great cast!

      Have a wonderful week!

  3. I loved The Push! Deliciously creepy kiddo and story. As for the Super Bowl, we will watch and as NE Pats fans we’ll be rooting for Tom Brady’s in his 10th Super Bowl even though he’s no longer in NE. Greatest player ever….Honestly, it would be nice but may the best team win.

  4. I really liked The Perfect Guests. Great mystery. I’m not a football fan at all, but I sometimes will watch the halftime show. If I remember :) Have a great week!

  5. Nice to have you in the Sunday Post community again!

I haven’t been very consistent with my blog, but it’s still my primary platform for book blogging. I’ll double-post on Tumblr when I do a review, and I post some on Instagram (half about books, half about spinning and knitting.) I post my reviews on Goodreads after they go on the blog, but mostly I don’t socialize or interact on GR; I just use it to track my reading and what I want to read.

I’ve thought about leaving Facebook, but the book community I’m most involved in, the one that has grown out of the COYER reading challenges, is on Facebook. More to the point, FB is how I keep in touch with my friends from high school and college — and during the pandemic, some of my local friends as well. So while I have qualms about the platform, I also have a lot of reasons to stay.

Have a wonderful week, and have fun watching the Super Bowl!

    • I understand! Leaving FB isn’t easy. Before I deleted mine, I went through and messaged the people I was only connected with there, and gave them my text #/email. I’m trying to establish a more one on one approach which has been fun.

We follow each other on Instagram β€” I enjoy your posts! Have a great week. :-)

  6. I’ve been wanting to delete my Facebook accounts but I’m afraid my family would freak out. I’m still pondering it. I don’t check it out as much as I used to. I focus more on my book blog and then post pictures of whatever book I’m reviewing or that is somehow part of my blog post for the day on IG. I have never really utilized Goodreads as much as a number of people do. I only really post my reviews. I’m glad you are back to your blog ❀️. Great post!

    • It’s nice that your family would miss you on Facebook! I didn’t get much engagement when I did post (other than immediate family), so I doubt mine will notice. 😭 I do love looking at book pics on Instagram. It’s very comforting!

  7. Great to see you back in the book meme world! :) Yeah I’m not much of a football fan either, but I’ll probably have the superbowl on as background noise while I do some work :)
That Root Magic book looks interesting. I’ll have to look for it at my library.

    Enjoy your week!

  8. It’s good to see you on your blog again! I’m still blogging in my little spot in the blogosphere. It’s my little haven, you could say. I understand about giving up on Facebook. I have considered it. I won’t though because I belong to a couple of great reading groups there and it’s the only link I have with some of my extended family.

I am really looking forward to reading The Nature of Fragile Things. I’ll be curious to know what you think of The Push. I have been curious about that one.

I hope you have a great week, Diana. Happy February!

  9. Welcome back! I’m not a football fan either but I like the commercials and half time. Good luck with your home team!

I post inconsistently on FB, and I don’t have anything personal on the site. I have a personal Instagram, but not a book one. I don’t want some of my real-life family and “friends” knowing about my book blogging as a bunch of them are judgmental, in fact I’ve considered deleting my Instagram account all together because I don’t even post personal stuff on it anymore. I don’t do a book Instagram because I’m sure it somehow connects you to your contacts in your phone and then it would suggest my blog to my family and acquaintances which would be awful. I’m so happy I have the blog so I can share my love of books and speak freely about it without worrying about what others think! I have this wonderful book loving community to interact with and I’m so grateful!

    Five Total Strangers looks fun!

    • I understand that, wanting to keep book blogging separate. Even though I’ve never used my full name on my blog, if I search myself on google, my blog pops up. Still trying to figure that one out!

  10. Omg! I just wrote a long comment and it was deleted by WordPress so I could log in! Ack. Welcome back to blogging. I’m grateful for the book community because I don’t share my book love or opinions with my family or “friends”. Too many judgy people out there! I wouldn’t dare do up an Instagram because it takes the contacts from your phone and suggests you or them as friends, and would probably make it easy to figure out I have a book blog. No thanks!

  11. Welcome back!
I’ve literally just started an Instagram account, but I’m not really a fan of it to be honest. I’d much prefer just to keep with the blog but I figure I should at least give it a try.

Wishing you a great reading week, and good luck to your team

    • Ugh, it just wasn’t the Chiefs’ night! Oh well, maybe next year. Five Total Strangers is ok so far, though it’s not as suspenseful as I thought it’d be. Maybe it will pick up. Have a great week!

  13. Great to see you back on the blog, I said to myself – wait is that Diana back on her blog! I am on IG but I just seem to forget to go there. I just prefer following readers on blogs. Then again I am not up with the main book play, but I don’t mind. I have the Susan Meissner book in my hopes to read. Hope super bowl went well. Good to cheer for the home team.

  14. Glad to see you with your book blog:)). I’ve just stuck with my own blog, though I probably should get more involved with Instagram – but I thoroughly enjoy the interactions I have with the loveliest bunch of folks and while I post my reviews of Goodreads. Shiver looks a cracking read – have a great week!

  15. It’s nice to see you back here! I borrowed Better Luck Next Time from the library last month, but never got a chance to read it. Guess I don’t need to be in a hurry to check it out again. The Push is on my wish list. Sorry about the Chiefs…

  16. Definitely not the Chief’s night but it’s hard to beat Tom Brady! Welcome back to the Sunday Post! I’ve noticed a shift with the more YA bloggers but not so much with the ones in my genre other then burnout. Have a great week!
