Sunday Post | It’s Monday! What are you reading?

Linking up with Kimberly @ Sunday Post and Kathryn @Β It’s Monday! What are you reading?

Hello & happy spring, or happy fall if you’re in the southern hemisphere!

πŸŽ‰ I just celebrated my 11th blog anniversary. March 17th ☘️ marked eleven years of Book of Secrets. For some reason, I vividly remember the moment I hit “publish blog” and then immediately had second thoughts about the whole thing. Suddenly, I looked down and already had my first follower, which inspired me to keep going. (I remember who it was! We still follow each other on Instagram. Sorry, I probably tell that story every year, lol.)

Speaking of blogging, WordPress made a switch this week and tried to force me to use their new-ish “block” post editor, lol. That’s a huge NOPE from me. I hate it. After spending an hour trying to recreate my very simple post style in Block (which was a fail), I googled how to change the admin page to default to the Classic editor. πŸ˜… Whew, I was relieved to get it back. I know it’s probably just delaying the inevitable, so I’ll enjoy it while it lasts. Did I mention I hate the new Block editor? πŸ˜‚

From Instagram:

βœ‹πŸ» This is the Five Finger Book Challenge! Looked fun, so I had to join in.

πŸ‘πŸ» A book I give a thumbs up to: CONJURE WOMEN β€” Loved it!

☝🏻 A book I’d recommend: WILDFLOWER HILL β€” It’s been a favorite for many years.

πŸ–•πŸ» A book I really didn’t like: BETTER LUCK NEXT TIME β€” Nothing wrong with it per se, just not my cup of tea.

πŸ’ A book with a character I’d marry: Mr. Rochester β€” Yes, Jane Eyre’s Mr. Rochester. Sorry. πŸ˜‚

πŸ€™πŸ» A book I promise to read soon: THE HOUSE IN THE CERULEAN SEA β€” I’ve only heard wonderful things…can’t wait to read it!

What I’ve Been Reading:

WATCH OVER ME by Nina LaCour (⭐⭐⭐⭐)
THE VALLEY AND THE FLOOD by Rebecca Mahoney (⭐⭐⭐)
THE SWEET TASTE OF MUSCADINES by Pamela Terry (⭐⭐⭐⭐½)

  1. I don’t understand why both Blogger and WordPress changed their formatting. It seems so nonsensical and I can’t see any real benefit to the changes they made. The Jennifer McMahon sounds really good. Have a great week!

  2. I hated when Blogger changed things up and would no longer allow me to post, comment using Safari – ugh. Congrats on 11 years, the years do fly by – I’ll be 13 in June and never expected to keep it up. Have a great week.

  3. Congrats on 11 years! In April, I will mark 13 years.

I also hate Block Editor. I did find a way to click on the Classic format through the block, but it is still so much harder than our previous method. I was able to stall the use of it for a while, going in the “back door” of admin…but then they blocked that!

    Good luck.

Thanks for sharing, and for visiting my blog.

  5. Happy anniversary! I remember when I started my blog last year, I was terribly confused about how many things changed in three years since my previous blog. I then bought a lovely template from Etsy and the same weekend Blogger also had an interface update. My template, however, stood the test of time and it still does! I am so glad about that. ‘Cause I am completely useless with techno lingo.

You have such lovely books featured today! I need to remain here a bit longer and look in more detail.

That Instagram challenge does look like a lot of fun. I might use it for a Friday Fives post!

Hope you will have a good week and happy reading!

  7. Congratulations! That’s amazing! That’s a neat story too about your first follower. :)

I’m sorry to hear about the new block editor. Blogger has made changes too and some of them have been very frustrating. I’m tech challenged anyway lol. I definitely feel your frustration though!

  8. Such great book covers and that’s a fun challenge. Happy blog-versary! Time flies!

I don’t like the new WordPress editor but have gotten used to it. It’s very annoying and I had to take away my β€œread more” link so I try to shorten my posts now.
    Happy reading this week!

  9. I’ve been using the “new” WP editor for a while and I still hate it. Ugh! I’m sure that once I finally get used to it, they will change it again. It seems that is the way of technology!

  10. Yeah the new editor is a pain but I just chose the Classic block and that really helps. I hope to read The Sweet Taste of Muscadines some day, I see you liked it.
