Linking up with Kimberly @ Sunday Post and Kathryn @ It’s Monday! What are you reading?
I’m re-watching “You’ve Got Mail” for the 100th time this evening. (Maybe not 100th, but close.) It’s my go-to comfort movie, even though it’s really quite sad. “Don’t cry, Shopgirl.”
I’ve been thinking about the “olden days” of book blogging, like a decade ago. 🤔 I remember there were two weekly blog hops I never missed, hosted by Parajunkee and Crazy for Books, I think? Do you remember Waiting on Wednesday over at Breaking the Spine? That one ended abruptly a few years ago, and I never knew why. Good memories, though!
Luckily, there are many book blog memes still around! Which ones should I know about?
What I’ve Been Reading:
🎧 AN OCCASIONALLY HAPPY FAMILY by Cliff Burke (⭐⭐⭐⭐½)
LOCAL WOMAN MISSING by Mary Kubica (⭐⭐⭐½)
EVERYTHING YOU WANTED TO KNOW ABOUT INDIANS
BUT WERE AFRAID TO ASK by Anton Treuer (⭐⭐⭐⭐⭐)
SHUTTER by Melissa Larsen (⭐⭐)
SONGS IN URSA MAJOR by Emma Brodie (DNF)*
*Minority opinion on this one, but I just couldn’t get into it. None of the characters grabbed me, and there were so many of them to juggle.
What I’m Currently Reading:
Thanks for stopping by & have a wonderful week! — 𝓓𝓲𝓪𝓷𝓪
Have you seen the movie that You’ve Got Mail was based on? It has Jimmy Stewart in it and is really sweet. I believe it’s called The Shop Around the Corner. I remember when Waiting on Wednesday ended and there’s been so many bloggers that have just disappeared over the years that I miss. I’m glad for the ones who have stayed active though and the new connections. I hope you have a great week!

I haven’t seen The Shop Around the Corner yet, but I really want to. I should check the library for the DVD.
A lot of bloggers I used to follow just disappeared too. I know it takes a lot of time, and I can understand not wanting to keep it up. I still love it though. It’s comforting!

I used to do the Parajunkee one all the time! Tressa at Wishful Endings picked up the Waiting on Wednesday and turned it into Can’t Wait Wednesday, and I’ve been continuing to do that one! Hope you have a good week!

You read some interesting looking books – sorry about the DNF – that happened to me once this week with Hilderbrand’s Golden Girl. Hope this week is good for you. I have so many reviews to catch up on.

I’m playing catch-up on reviews too. I think sometimes it’s easier to review a book you had issues with, rather than one you loved.

I remember those bloggers. I, also, remember how Waiting on Wednesday disappeared but Tressa at Wishful Endings picked it up and it’s really fun.
Enjoy your books and have a great week!

I think that I have only watched You’ve Got Mail once. Of course, I don’t watch a lot of movies. Blogging certainly has changed over the years. I really enjoyed What’s Done in Darkness and hope you do as well!

It has changed a lot. I do seem to put more energy into Bookstagram, but I’m trying to give my blog more attention. Thanks for stopping by!

I LOVE You’ve Got Mail! One of my favorites! When I bought my projector several months ago (since we were missing going to the movies), that was the first movie I watched on it.
As for weekly book blog memes, do you participate in Book Blogger Hop or Friday Book Beginnings? Or how about Friday Face-Off? Come check out my blog for the links to those if you’re interested :)

I’ll stop by and check them out! I did Book Beginnings for a while, and remember it was fun. Thanks!

Many of the blogs I started reading aren’t around anymore. I read Parajunkee and the two Canadian blogs – Yummy Men & Kick Ass Chicks, Rabid Reads, Red Hot Books, The Book Nympho. I also read Between Dreams and Reality (French) which is still around. Under the Covers either doesn’t post as often now or I somehow stopped my subscription. But I read more fantasy, paranormal, scifi and mystery instead of mostly contemporary romance so my tastes have changed / broadened.

Yes! I followed many of those same blogs. Like you, my tastes have changed. When I started out I was strictly a romance reader, but now I’m into other genres, especially thrillers.

I’m so glad to find book blogs as well. Blogging is indeed time consuming. Keeping up a blog is hard. But I so enjoy reading blogs, finding new ones, the friendships developed, the support, the humor, the wisdom, the laughter…the list goes on and on! I’m glad you’re here! By the way, I added Local Woman Missing to my To Read list. ;)

Enjoy your books. I was big on book blogging ten years ago, petered out a few years ago and am getting back into it. I have noticed that there aren’t as many memes as there once were and while there are a bunch of book haul/weekly re-cap memes people seem to lump them all together in one post. I suspect one thing is that people who are serious about book blogging have gotten into SEO and evidently memes aren’t good for SEO.

I didn’t know that about memes and SEO, but you’re probably right. I’ve never paid much attention to website traffic numbers. Too stressful!

Oh yes….the good old days of book blogging! I remember both of those hops and I definitely miss them! It seems like most of the book blogging gang has moved to Instagram these days.

That’s true. I’ve put more energy into my Bookstagram account in recent years. I can reach more readers there with hashtags and such. Still, I’d miss book blogging too much to give it up.

You have a nice list of books here! I love the movie you’ve got mail. I just read a book, To Sir With Love by Lauren Layne that was similar to the movie.

I miss those memes that are no longer with us.
But I am glad we still have some to visit every week. Enjoy your reading. I am eyeing One Great Lie.

I’ve never seen You’ve Got Mail which isn’t too surprising. I very, very seldom see movies. Blogging has changed a lot over the years. I used to do a lot more hops and memes. I don’t know if they are gone or if I’ve just lost interest. Come see my week here. Happy reading!

I have a stack of comfort movies. Most of them are about people who become better people after being in a relationship. One of them is You’ve Got Mail.
I remember all the old memes. A couple of years ago I made a list of all the ones I knew about. It’s here: https://readerbuzz.blogspot.com/p/blog-page.html. I probably need to update my list again by now. One of them was Sunday Salon. I contacted the person who started the salon and asked if she would mind if I revived it, and she was good with it. It has been a delight to me over the past two years.

Thank you for the link of memes! I’ll be joining The Sunday Salon next time. It’s great when another blogger will step in to keep the favorites going!

Oh Parajunkee!! What a blast from the past. I think I remember those older memes a little better because I was gone from book blogging for the better part of a decade. :D I personally last week or so Googled “book blog memes” and found folk listing a load of the more recent ones and picked out what seems relevant to me, as well as just looking at what my friend’s blogs are taking part in these days. And then added those to my google calendar with links because my memory is awful. 😂

You’ve Got Mail is one of my all-time favorite rom-coms! I used to do Waiting on Wednesday and wasn’t sure why it stopped. I think I rated Local Woman Missing the same. Wasn’t as good as I hoped. Happy reading and thanks for stopping by my Sunday Post! :)

You know, when I first saw You’ve Got Mail I hated it! I hated the message and I hated to see Hanks as a jerk. It grew on me though. The movie it’s based on was not as sad.

I wasn’t a fan the first time I saw it either. My BFF and I were like, how could she fall for him?!? Of course, I kept watching it because of the bookstores!

It’s been so long since I’ve seen that movie. Is it sad?? I thought it was a rom-com.
I think about the good old days too. The memes just aren’t as popular – even the ones that are still around. I remember them getting hundreds of links. Even giveaways don’t seem to be popular anymore. And of course, all the great bloggers who have quit :-(
