Weekend Update — Mid-July

My reading and posting slowed down some this month. We’ve been busier lately, doing this and that. I found out there are going to be some big changes in our classroom this upcoming school year which has me a bit stressed. It’s outside of my control, but that doesn’t mean I’m not going to worry about it!

My son finished up his summer orchestra camp today with a group performance. He plays viola and was the only one in the camp. Violas are in demand! My daughter plays cello and made it into the high school’s chamber orchestra for her senior year. We’re very proud of both of them. It’s hard to believe we have a senior and sophomore now.

The cicadas are singing which means summer’s days are numbered! I know they annoy a lot of people, but I like listening to them. They seem quiet this year, though maybe it’s August that they’re louder.

  2. I hope the changes at work aren’t too troublesome. We were meant to be relocating at work over the summer break but it’s been delayed so we are having to move into a temporary space for a few weeks. We only have a week to get it all sorted out AND ensure our anxious learners are feeling confident about the move.
    Sounds like you have some very musically talented offspring, I do love listening to string instruments.

  4. I’ve been hearing the cicadas too! I don’t mind hearing them. But I hate when they fly around and make their horrible noises at me. Who knows what kind of changes are coming to my school this year. I’m guessing there will be less of the online learning, but don’t know how that is all going to work yet! As much of a pain as it was, I guess I did like the extra paycheck I got for dealing with that. Hope you have a good week!

    • With budget cuts, they discontinued our virtual school, so I’m not sure what those families will decide to do. I wonder when and if things will ever feel “normal” again! I agree about the cicadas — I don’t want to actually see them near me, lol.

  9. Congratulations to your son and daughter! Viola and cello are both wonderful instruments.

    The cicadas are singing here, too, but this is Virginia; we have at least 2 months of summer still to go. Probably closer to three, although late September and early October are generally cooler than August. There seem to be significantly fewer summer birds around the last few years, though, and I miss them.

    BTW, I’ve been meaning to compliment you on your use of Pre-Raphaelite paintings for your blog design. I love them!

    Congrats to your son and daughter! That’s really exciting. I love both the viola and cello, though I love most string instruments.

    I’ve only ever heard cicadas on Animal Crossing. We don’t have them where I live and I’ve never been anywhere they had them before.

    Good look with the changes in your job. I’m sorry it’s stressful. Hopefully, it won’t be too bad. :D

  14. I played the viola in middle school. Actually, I played the violin and then my orchestra teacher had me switch to the viola. I do like the sound of a viola, but I wish their parts were more interesting. Have a great week!

  15. How nice that both your kids play musical instruments! I wish I would’ve learned to play something. The House Across the Lake seemed like a fun summer thriller, and I also have The Last to Vanish. I might start listening to it tomorrow. Hope we both love it!

  23. I played viola for several years when I was a teenager so I have a soft spot for it. It has such a beautiful sound and I think deserves so much more recognition. That’s wonderful that your son is in such demand! It’s always great to have options. Congratulations to your daughter! I hope you’re having a wonderful week.
