Weekend Update — August, or Autumn Eve

This week I’m linking up with Sunday Post, Sunday Salon, and It’s Monday! What are you reading? Thank you for hosting, Kimberly, Deb, and Kathryn!

• We’ve been in August for nearly a week. What!?! Sorry I’ve been missing from the blog lately. I’ve had a bout of the blues and haven’t been motivated to do much of anything. It happens from time to time.

• During my down time, I decided that I’m not posting book reviews on Instagram anymore. The algorithm has totally tanked my engagement as a Bookstagrammer, so I’m just going to keep that account for hodgepodge — a few bookish things, a lot of my dog Ginger, and who knows what else! I switched my account to private, but I’d still love to connect (or stay connected) with my book blogger acquaintances there.

Summer Fitness Plan Update: It was a success! My goal was to complete Jessica Smith’s 6 Week Total Transformation System twice, and that finally wrapped up this week. During the first six weeks, I exercised only and lost ZERO pounds! During the second six weeks, I exercised AND counted calories with the Lose It app, and I lost TEN pounds!

What I love about Jessica’s workouts is that she focuses on functional fitness, doing exercises that will help you with daily activities. I do feel somewhat stronger and more flexible. A few aches and pains I had have greatly improved. Now, onto the next 6 week plan…

THE LAST TO VANISH by Megan Miranda

Currently Reading:

STAY AWAKE by Megan Goldin

A murder she doesn’t remember committing. A killer she doesn’t remember meeting. Megan Goldin’s Stay Awake is an electrifying novel that proves memory can be deadly.

THE PLOT by Jean Hanff Korelitz

Hailed as “breathtakingly suspenseful,” Jean Hanff Korelitz’s The Plot is a propulsive read about a story too good not to steal, and the writer who steals it.

THE HOTEL NANTUCKET by Elin Hilderbrand

“The queen of beach reads” (New York Magazine) delivers an immensely satisfying page-turner in this tale about a summer of scandal at a storied Nantucket hotel… Filled with the emotional depth and multiple points of view that characterize Hilderbrand’s novels as well as an added dash of Roaring Twenties history, The Hotel Nantucket offers something for everyone in this compelling summer drama.

  1. Congrats on the weight loss! Instagram has certainly been a struggle recently. It’s frustrating on how the change in algorithm really messes with everything, isn’t it?

  2. I don’t do much with Instagram, but I’m on there as debnance. Pictures are nice, but, honestly, I’m more of a text person.

I’ve started back to the Y after swimming all summer through a city program, and I feel better. Exercising is something good for my mind as well as my body. I’m glad your exercise plan is doing so well.

    Have a good week, Diana.

  3. Congrats on sticking to an exercise plan – I just CAN’T seem to manage it. Good intentions and all that. Sigh. I recently read and reviewed the plot – found it an intriguing premise about what constitutes stealing an idea… I like your idea of linking to your GR review if you don’t put one on your blog. Sometimes I read a book and either don’t have enough to say or don’t have enough time for a full review, but I always put a few thoughts on GR. I may just ‘steal’ that idea and use it as well…. :) Hope you find time to read a good book this week.

  4. I still want to read The Plot, it does seem like something I will enjoy!

Oooh exercise plans…. It just needs to warm up here a bit and then I’ll start going for my beach walks again. That does help a bit.

I have no idea how Instagram’s algorithm works, I just post a couple of times a week and usually just what I’m reading and of course Elza and now the little mutt as well!

Have a good week and happy reading.

  5. First of all, sorry your had the blues, but I’ve been there for sure at times. Big hugs to you over that. Next, congrats and well done for your exercise venture and counting calories. I bet you feel better in that regard. I have found that my daily walk and some stretching/yoga is really necessary for my mental outlook, plus being good for me physically. Good luck with your next 6-week goals. I’ve got The Last To Vanish checked out of the library and will try to get it read in the next few weeks. I have a bunch of books checked out of the library. Ha! I’m also 1st on the hold list for Stay Awake. There have been a lot of books that I wanted to read published in the last few weeks. Read faster, Kay! LOL

  6. My instagram account has always been a collection of life stuff, including books, but I’ve neglected it most of the summer – without really planning to. Walk Strong looks like a program I might like… walking is my preferred form of exercise these days. The Plot is still on my tbr list, but I just bought her new book, The Latecomers, with a birthday gift card. Hope it will be my next read. Have a good week!

  7. I see a lot of mixed thoughts on Instagram lately. Mine is so neglected…

I hope the Megan Miranda was good- I thought about maybe getting that one since I liked an earlier book by her. The Megan Goldin book sounds great too.

  8. I have also been blue this summer…I hope we’re both back to ourselves with time. I’ve made my account private on Instagram as well. By the way, I requested to follow you on Instagram. :)
    Take good care!

  9. The blues sure are a pain and often difficult to banish. Nice to see you though. IG seems to be going video and that doesn’t interest me so I’ve stopped being there most of the time.

  10. I’m sorry to learn it’s been a difficult time for you, be kind to yourself x
Instagram suspended me this week accusing me of buying followers! I have less than 500 and they are all book accounts, and I post a couple of times a week at most. Grrr

Wishing you a great reading week

  11. Congrats on doing those workouts. I have become a real couch potato and packing on the pounds too. I don’t do Instagram since just blogging keeps me busy enough. You have read a nice assortment of books. Come see my week here. Happy reading!

  12. Congrats on the workouts! I’ve done a few workouts by Jessica Smith and really enjoyed them. Instagram drives me crazy with all the algorithms. I seem to see posts by only the same few people. I hope you have a wonderful week!
