The Weekend Wrap-Up

A weekly recap post linking up with:

SUNDAY POST | THE SUNDAY SALON | IT’S MONDAY, WHAT ARE YOU READING?

Thank you to Kimberly @ Caffeinated Reviewer | Deb @ Readerbuzz | Kathryn @ The Book Date for hosting! Please visit them to join the fun. What have you been up to this week?

This has been the year of home improvements at our place. We’ve had a new roof installed, bedrooms repainted, and just this week we had a new driveway & front steps poured. We decided it was time to spruce things up. As I was writing this post, we discovered that the lights in our hall bathroom don’t work! I suspect it’s a bad switch, so I guess we get to add some electrical stuff to the improvements list.

What I’ve Read Recently:

KILL ALL YOUR DARLINGS by David Bell (⭐⭐⭐⭐)

SHARICE’S BIG VOICE: A Native Kid Becomes a Congresswoman by Sharice Davids with Nancy K. Mays, Joshua Mangeshig Pawis-Steckley (Illustrator) (⭐⭐⭐⭐⭐)

Sharice Davids is my representative in Congress, so I was very excited about her picture book autobiography. It tells her inspirational life story from talkative child of an Army sergeant to one of the first Native American women in Congress, and the first LGBTQ congressperson representing Kansas. She worked hard, used her voice, and listened to people along the way. Even though she had doubters — “They thought I couldn’t win based on what I look like, who I love, and where I started” — she overcame obstacles through perseverance & triumphed in the end. The illustrations are vibrant and capture Rep. Davids’ message beautifully.

What I’m Currently Reading:

THE THERAPIST by B.A. Paris (Thriller)

  2. Wow you’ve been busy with the improvements. I bet it’s nice to have all that done though. I’m in the process of getting a new refrigerator because the old one is getting tired. :)

Ooh I read a B.A.PAris a few years ago- was pretty good.

  5. We redid our kitchen and bathroom in the last few years and we plan to redo the flooring in the next months. Home improvements have delighted me…when they were finished. The process, though, can be jarring.

Love the picture book autobiography. So fun!

The Therapist looks intriguing. I look forward to hearing more.

  6. We are also busy with improvements and renovations! I’ve been sorting out cupboards and packing up all my books for the last two weeks so that the builders can start coming in. It’s disruptive yes, but I am very excited for the final product.

The new B.A. Paris looks really good! Still need to get to it myself too. Kill all your darlings will draw my attention too for sure.

    Have a good week ahead!

  9. I’ll be curious to read what you think of The Therapist. Kill Your Darlings is on my list as well. Home improvement projects always iffy as it always seems to lead to something else. Have a good week.

  11. Home improvements are fun once complete but I find them stressful and exhausting while they are happening! I hope you get your electrical switch fixed and wish you luck with your ongoing projects.

  12. I’m following in your footsteps. I just did new sod. Now I am working on a kitchen renovation, new bathroom flooring, and a new roof. Contractors are so frustrating. Good luck!

  14. We have a short in one of our bathroom lights, too….it keeps blinking, and it’s freaky, lol! We are looking to get it fixed this week because we are concerned about the safety.

I am VERY interested in The Therapist. I’m looking forward to your review. i haven’t read a thriller in a while.

  15. Yay for home improvements!! With everyone spending so much time at home this past year and last year, I’ve seen lots of homes spruced up recently.

I am waiting to hear everyone’s thoughts on The Therapist. Paris has been a bit formulaic of late. Wasn’t impressed with the last few books.
